B11 GAMBIT
Trying to locate Docholli, Blake traces him to Freedom City, a gambling
mecca outside of Federation influence. Blake, Cally and Jenna teleport
down to begin the search. Travis has already found Docholli, but when he
realizes that Blake will seek him also, he decides to wait and kill Blake.
Servalan also goes to Freedom City and plans to kill both Travis and Blake.
Left on board
the Liberator, Avon and Vila bemoan their fate. Freedom City is a gamblers
paradise ripe for the plundering. They convince Orace to microsize itself
so that they can take it to the casino and beat the gaming computers, at
the Big Wheel. There are millions to be had!!
Kranton, owner
of the Big Wheel and boss of a large part of Freedom City, meets with Servalan.
He sends out his thugs to find Travis and Docholli. Meanwhile Vila is breaking
the bank with Orac's help. He and Avon have won 5 million credits and Krantor
is not pleased! He drugs Vila and tricks him into challenging the Klute.
The Klute is an alien who challenges all to games of Speed Chess. Anyone
drawing or beating him wins 1 million credits; anyone losing is electrocuted.
With Orac's help, Vila defeats the Klute and he and Avon teleport back
to the Liberator with their ill gotten fortunes.
Blake finds
both Docholli and Travis. Travis has Docholli repair his bionic arm which
he fears may contain a bomb implanted by Servalan. During the repairs,
Docholli confesses that he doesn't know the location of Star One. He admits
to mind wiping the technicians who worked on the project, but he never
read the scans. He did fake his last mind wipe on a fellow cyber surgeon,
Lurgen. Therefore, Lurgen should know the location. Docholli escapes and
Blake, Jenna and Cally teleport back to the Liberator only seconds after
Avon and Vila return. Blake gives a gimlet eye to two long
time criminals looking as innocent as choir boys!
B12 THE KEEPER
Blake learns that Lurgen is dead but that his brain pattern is on the
back of an amulet worn by a member of the royal family of Goth. Blake,
Jenna and Vila teleport down but are attacked by the tribal natives. They
signal for help but Avon has taken the ship to do battle with Travis. Avon
destroys Travis' vessel but not before Travis makes it to Goth. When Avon
returns to Goth, only Blake is able to teleport back.
The tribes live
in underground caverns and Vila and Jenna are taken there to become the
property of Gola, the Charl of Goth. Jenna is betrothed to Gola and Vila
is made his jester. But Vila irritates Gola and finds himself in prison.
There he is told that Servalan and Travis are also on Goth and looking
for the brain print.
Returning to
Goth, Blake encounters Gola's men dragging a prisoner. It's Rod, Gola's
brother. Blake frees him and Ros agrees to help Blake rescue Jenna and
Vila. Rod and Gola fight for the leadership. Gola wins but is poisoned
by his sister Tara. None of the three bear the brain print. However, Tara
confesses that their father, who was cast into prison years ago by Rod
and Gola, still lives. Blake finds the old man dying, and the print gone.
It was taken by Travis, who has stolen Servalan's ship and is heading for
Star One. As the old man dies he states: "A fool knows everything and nothing".
Puzzling over the phrase, Blake repeats it and the old man's jester falls
into a trance. He had the location of Star One implanted by Lurgen! Eagerly
Blake teleports back to the Liberator and tries to out race Travis to Star
One.
B13 STAR ONE
Star One seems to be failing. There has been an increase in shipping
accidents due to computer error and the climate control on many planet
has failed. Servalan marshals all her forces to seek out the elusive
control center. It is revealed that a small group of dedicated technicians
have been maintaining the system. They have been condemmed to live out
their lives there in order to protect its location.
Approaching the coordinates,
the crew is very wary. This is the edge of known space! Going further would
send them into virtual infinity. Blake insists that Star One is there and
the crew reluckenly proceeds. Eventually, they discover a dying star with
a single planet. Star One. Beyond, is a massive arraign of antimatter minefields.
Orac suggests that the early Federation had an unpleasant encounter with
an intergalactic species and built the field to protect mankind.
Blake and Avon
bitterly argue about the death of millions if Star One is destroyed. Blake
is fanatic, he needs to do this to justify all his previous acts of terrorism.
Avon states "You can wallow up to your armpits in blood for all I care,
But when this is over I want out.... I want to be free of HIM!: " and points
to Blake. To secure Avons help, Blake agrees to give him the Liberator
if Avon takes Blake back to Earth. With that bitter truce, Blake Avon and
Cally teleport down and plant bombs to destroy the control center Where
they stumble onto a startling discovery. The Andromedans have taken over
most of the staff and with the help of a human traitor plan to collapse
the minefields allowing their amassed fleet to invade Federation space!
The crew learns that Travis is the traitor and when they meet, Travis shoots
and severely wounds Blake before he is killed by Avon. Realizing his error,
Blake tells Avon and Cally to retrieve the bombs and then he is teleported
back for medical treatment. But Avon and Cally are too late, One of the
bombs explodes and the field partially collapses. Jenna sends out a warning
to Servalan, who declares herself President of the Federation. She sends
out the war fleet to stem the invasion. Avon takes over command of the
Liberator after promising to fight the alien rather then run. Then with
Vila, Cally and Jenna, Avon turns to single-handedly hold off the invasion
until the Federation arrives.
